AUTOMATIC ALOE VERA IRRIGATION SOLUTION

AUTOMATIC ALOE VERA

IRRIGATION SOLUTION

Aloe Vera is a resilient crop that adapts well to arid and semi-arid environments due to its nature as a Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM) plant—an adaptation that allows it to minimize water loss. The irrigation needs and strategies for aloe vera should focus on supporting optimal plant growth, avoiding overwatering, and maintaining proper moisture during critical growth stages.

Automatic irrigation solution for aloe vera involve key considerations such as water requirements, irrigation cycles, irrigation methods specific to aloe vera, as well as the integration of fertigation (applying fertilizer through the irrigation system).

THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER FOR ALOE VERA

Aloe vera has a remarkable ability to recover from water stress, making it well-suited for cultivation in drought-prone regions. Although drought-tolerant, moderate irrigation during key growth stages can significantly improve both the quality and quantity of yield. For instance, researchers have observed that low soil moisture reduces the fresh weight and growth rate of aloe leaves, highlighting the importance of maintaining adequate water supply.

In one experiment, aloe vera demonstrated impressive water-use efficiency: it required only 54 grams of irrigation water to produce 1 gram of dry aloe, making it one of the most water-efficient crops.

AUTOMATED IRRIGATION METHODS FOR ALOE VERA

Both sprinkler irrigation and drip irrigation methods can be applied to aloe vera.

Drip irrigation ensures a more precise amount of water is delivered to the roots and also allows for easy application of fertilizers through the irrigation system. On the other hand, morning sprinkler irrigation helps the plant photosynthesize better, resulting in juicier leaves and higher aloe vera gel yields.

For commercial aloe vera cultivation, applying an automatic and precise irrigation system is extremely important to optimize yield, quality, harvest frequency, and costs. We can calculate, record, and analyze the optimal irrigation volume for each growth stage.

THE IMPORTANCE OF IRRIGATION FOR PINEAPPLE

IRRIGATION SYSTEM MODEL FOR ALOE VERA

Drip Irrigation Method for Aloe Vera

This method uses an above-ground drip line layout. Each aloe vera row (either single or double) is equipped with one drip irrigation line. The drip line is connected to the sub-main line using a connector (commonly referred to as a starter or starter valve). The sub-main line can be made from flat hoses (such as PE or PVC flat hoses) or rigid uPVC pipes.

Sprinkler Irrigation for Aloe Vera

Sprinkler pipes or sprinkler nozzles are also commonly used for irrigating aloe vera. This system is easy to install and apply, allows for visual monitoring, and reduces the risk of clogging. On average, one sprinkler pipe or nozzle line is placed every 3–4 meters.

Simple Drip Irrigation Model: Single-Pipe System

  • In this model, drip lines are connected directly to the main pipeline (no valve divisions).
  • It is suitable for small-scale irrigation projects (watering the entire field at once each time the pump is turned on),
  • For farmers who want to save on the cost of sub-main pipes (valve collection pipes).
  • This model reduces initial investment costs but increases the labor cost of operating valves, as each drip line must be opened and closed manually.

Drip Irrigation Model with Secondary Pipe (Valve Collection)

  • In this model, instead of connecting drip lines directly to the main pipe, they are connected to secondary pipes (valve collection pipes).
  • Each valve controls irrigation for a specific area, allowing for opening/closing by section instead of managing each drip line individually.
  • This setup allows for automation using solenoid valves and control systems, helping reduce operating costs.

COST OF INSTALLING AN ALOE VERA IRRIGATION SYSTEM

Cost of Installing a Drip Irrigation System for Aloe Vera

The cost of a drip irrigation system for aloe vera can vary significantly depending on planting density, quality requirements of irrigation equipment, and level of automation. Typically, the cost ranges from 10 to 15 million VND/ha for a non-pressure-compensating system, and from 20 to 30 million VND/ha for pressure-compensating drip systems.

Costs fluctuate based on the irrigation model, quality of materials, automation level, and farm scale. Higher-quality and thicker irrigation pipes tend to cost more but also last longer, which may reduce the average annual cost over time.
