The most standard and commonly used solution for automatic lychee irrigation today is using under-canopy sprinkler irrigation.
Lychee trees require a consistent water supply throughout the year. Unlike some other woody plants, lychee does not have a dormant season, so farmers must continue watering even during this period.
Irrigating before harvest helps increase both fruit quality and yield. Providing sufficient water to maintain soil moisture is crucial for the tree’s development and to achieve high productivity and quality.
Lychee irrigation techniques require sufficient water supply to moisten the soil and support root zone development. The irrigation cycle is typically every 2–3 days during the early planting stage, and can later be adjusted to once every 3–5 days.
Installing one under-canopy sprinkler per lychee tree is currently the most common and effective irrigation solution for lychee.
Accordingly, the system includes a pump unit, filtration, and automatic irrigation control devices (controller, solenoid valves, etc.); the main and sub pipelines (usually PVC pipes); lateral pipelines (LDPE pipes) running along each row of lychee trees; and finally, a sprinkler head installed under each lychee tree.
