Both sprinkler irrigation and drip irrigation systems are suitable for watermelon cultivation. However, drip irrigation is more commonly applied due to its significant water savings and lower operational costs.

Before transplanting, planting beds must be thoroughly saturated with water. From transplanting to flowering, the recommended irrigation cycle is once every two days. During the fruit development stage, irrigation should be done daily.

With drip irrigation, farmers can also apply fertilizers and nutrients directly through the system. Additionally, this method can be combined with mulching using straw or agricultural plastic film.

The drip irrigation model along planting beds is the most common and effective method for corn cultivation.
Accordingly, the system includes a water source such as a well, pond, or reservoir. Water is pumped and delivered to the field through a water pipeline system (commonly using PVC pipes). From this network, water is distributed to each plant via drip irrigation lines.

Drip lines are laid between every two rows of corn (in a double-row planting bed).

Important notes for farmers:

  • Use double-row planting beds with a spacing of approximately 1.2 meters between the centers of two beds when applying drip irrigation.

  • You can use drip lines typically used for watermelon cultivation, with a 16mm diameter, emitter spacing of 20cm, and flow rates between 1.4 to 2.0 liters/hour. Irrigation volume can reach 10mm to 15mm per hour of watering.
