Pump calculator IN AN IRRIGATION SYSTEM

The overall effectiveness of an irrigation system depends largely on the pump.
Many irrigation projects fail due to incorrect calculation and selection of pump capacity.
Pump capacity is selected based on the relationship between flow and pressure. Large flow and high pressure require a larger pump.
Note: parameters recorded on the pump such as flow and pressure are usually the max index; Meanwhile, we need to determine the pump’s operating point (not flow or max pressure). In addition, a safety factor needs to be calculated because the pump may not reach its maximum operating point.

Variables

  • Operate Flow rate: the capacity of flow water for valves opened at the same time.
  • Operate Pressure: The requirement of pressure head at the pump outlet. This pressure equal to all the pressure head of the systems (pressure at the sprinkler (or dripper) + total pressure loss).

Pump calculation formula

With the pump calculation formula below you can easily and quickly calculate pump capacity based on flow and pressure head. Pump calculator also regard to the real ability of the Motor and pump. In most case we apply about 75% of Pump Efficiency and about 80-90 of Drive Motor Efficiency.

Pipeline pressure loss calculator is an important formula that helps you calculate and design your irrigation system accurately.

Water pressure on a pipe is understood as a force exerted by a unit of water flowing in the pipe on the inner surface of the pipe wall.
Loss of pressure on the pipe is understood as during the process of conveying water in the pipe, part of the pressure will be lost. This pressure loss is mainly due to the friction between the water volume and the pipe wall.
This is the major factor in irrigation system to chose the pipe size and calculate the pump.
